Choosing the right channel for digital advertising

Which advertising channel suits which goal?

Choosing a channel starts with how your customers find you: Google and Yandex search ads suit customers who are already looking for you, Meta and TikTok suit an audience that isn’t searching yet but will be interested once they see you, and LinkedIn suits businesses that sell to companies. That is why, as a digital advertising agency, our first question is this: is your customer trying to find you, or do they need to see you?

Your goalSuitable channelWhy
Getting calls and forms from customers who are searchingGoogle Ads, Yandex DirectThe demand already exists; showing up for the right keyword is enough.
Launching a new product or brandMeta (Instagram, Facebook), TikTok, YouTubeInterest is created with visuals and video.
Reaching corporate decision-makersLinkedInYou can target by job title, industry and company size.
Selling products from your own websiteE-commerce advertisingThanks to the product feed, price and image appear directly in the ad.
Increasing sales on marketplacesMarketplace advertisingThe buyer is already on the platform with the intention to purchase.

There are also clear trends by industry. For services tied to urgent needs (plumbing, locksmiths, clinic appointments), search ads come first. In sectors where decisions are made visually, such as fashion, cosmetics and food and drink, Meta and TikTok do more of the work. For a company selling industrial products or business software, LinkedIn and Google search ads are considered together.

For most businesses, Yandex Direct is not the main channel but a complementary one: keywords that are expensive per click on Google and that bring conversions are the first ones to try on Yandex. With marketplace ads, we look at the product page itself before the ads; if the images, title, review rating and Q&A section are weak, the ads will bring clicks but not sales.

How should ad budget be split between channels?

The main share of the budget goes to the channel closest to demand; the rest is set aside for testing and remarketing. For a business that is just starting out, gathering meaningful data on one or two channels is healthier than spreading the budget across five.

The principles we use when splitting it:

  1. Searching customers first: If your product or service is searched for on Google, most of the budget goes to a search campaign.
  2. A learning share for every channel: The automated bidding strategies in Google Ads and Meta Ads Manager need conversion data to learn. If the budget is split too thinly, no campaign can collect that data.
  3. Remarketing as a separate line: Reaching people again who visited the site without taking action starts with a small share and grows as visitor numbers rise.
  4. Shifting depends on data: If one channel performs clearly better than another on cost per enquiry, budget is moved there within the month.

Say a furniture store in Bakırköy wants both visitors to the shop and orders from its website. The bulk of the budget goes to searches for product names and a Google Shopping campaign; video ads on Instagram showing the new collection are tested with a smaller share; remarketing is set up for people who visit the site without ordering. A month later, the split is readjusted based on which channel brought orders and store visits.

What is the difference between the management fee and the ad budget?

The ad budget is what you pay Google, Meta or the marketplace for clicks and impressions; the management fee pays for the agency’s work in setting up, monitoring and improving the campaign. They are two separate items. With us, the ad budget is never included in any package; it is spent directly from your own ad account. We set the budget together and show the spend line by line in the report.

The main factors that determine the ad management fee are the number of channels managed, the number of campaigns and products, and whether creative production is part of the work. The ad account is opened in your name; even if we stop working together, the account, historical data and audiences stay with you.

When comparing proposals from Google ads agencies or a social media advertising agency, looking only at the management fee is a common mistake. When the budget is small, the fee makes up a large part of total spend; as the budget grows, the quality of management determines how efficiently that spend works.

What do we measure in advertising?

What we really measure is not the click but its outcome: a form, a phone call, a WhatsApp message, an add to cart, a sale. That is why conversion tracking is set up and tested before a campaign launches. If measurement is incomplete, the platform’s automated bidding learns from the wrong signals and spends the budget on people who click easily but don’t buy.

  • GA4 and Google Ads conversion tags, Meta Pixel and Conversions API, TikTok Pixel, LinkedIn Insight Tag
  • Cost per conversion; for e-commerce, also return on ad spend (ROAS)
  • Search terms report: which queries are spending the budget
  • Results by creative: which image or video brings in enquiries
  • Whether people who came through a form turned into customers (based on feedback from you)

If you advertise on more than one channel, we bring the results together in a single report so you can compare channels by the same measure. If you’re not sure which channel to start with, write your goal in the quote request form and we’ll draw up the first plan together.

FAQ

Questions about ad management

What does a digital advertising agency do?
A digital advertising agency takes on ad account setup, targeting, creative preparation, bid and budget management, conversion tracking and reporting. It doesn’t launch a campaign and walk away; it regularly reviews and improves search terms, audiences and creatives. The aim is for the budget spent to turn into measurable demand.
Which advertising channel should I start with?
If your product or service is searched for on Google, we recommend starting with search ads; if you have a product that sparks interest at first sight, start with Meta or TikTok. If you sell to businesses, LinkedIn is the first candidate, and if you sell on a marketplace, the marketplace’s own advertising panel. At the start, gathering data on one or two channels is healthier than splitting the budget across many.
Is the ad budget included in the management fee?
No. The management fee pays for the agency’s work in setting up, monitoring and improving the campaign; the ad budget is paid to the platform directly from your own ad account. We set the budget together and show the spend line by line in the report.
Whose name is the ad account opened in?
The ad account is opened in your name and remains your property. We work only with management access. Even if we end our work together, the account, historical data and the audiences created stay with you.
Can I advertise on several channels at the same time?
Yes. When working across several channels, we plan the budget between them together and bring the results into a single report. However, each channel’s automated bidding system needs data to learn, so we recommend keeping the number of channels to what the budget can support.
When will I see results from advertising?
With search ads, the first clicks start coming in on the day the campaign goes live; however, a few weeks of data are needed to see which keywords and audiences bring in enquiries. On Meta and TikTok, the platform’s learning phase also takes time to complete. We plan the first month as a period of measurement and testing, and the following months as a period of optimisation.
