Yandex Ads
Search and display ad management via Yandex Direct. An alternative reach channel for keywords where competition on Google is expensive.
We run your ads on the Yandex search engine and on sites in Yandex's ad network.
What are Yandex Ads and where do they run?
Yandex Direct runs ads in Yandex search results and on sites in the Yandex advertising network (YAN). In Turkey the search volume is lower than Google's; so it isn't a main channel but a complementary one for keywords where competition is expensive.
What we do
- Yandex Direct account and Metrica setup
- Keyword research and campaign structure
- Ad copy and visual assets
- Defining remarketing audiences
- Cost comparison with Google campaigns
AI support
We use AI-powered tools in campaign setup and daily optimization: audience breakdowns, creative variations, bid strategy and budget allocation are managed together with the platform's machine-learning signals. The decision stays with us; the execution and test volume go to the AI.
How we measure
- Cost per click and per conversion
- Search term report
- Side-by-side cost comparison with Google
Budget and ad spend
The package fee is a management service; the ad budget paid to the platform is separate and spent directly from your own account. We set the ad budget together and show the spend line by line in the report.
Which businesses should advertise on Yandex?
- Industries where click costs on Google are high and competition is intense
- Tourism, real estate and health tourism businesses that want to reach Russian-speaking audiences
- Accounts whose Google campaigns are already established and that want additional volume from search ads
We don't recommend Yandex as a standalone main channel; for a business without a Google campaign, we recommend starting with Google.
Before trying Yandex, we look at the search terms report of your existing Google campaign: keywords that have a high click cost but bring in conversions are the first ones to test on Yandex. That way, a small test budget shows whether the channel works for you.
Differences between Yandex and Google Ads
- Search volume: In Turkey, Yandex's search share is lower than Google's; the same keyword gets fewer impressions.
- Cost: Because competition is lower, click costs can be lower for some keywords; we see this in side-by-side reports, not by guessing.
- Measurement: GA4 is used on the Google side, Metrica on the Yandex side. Metrica's session recordings and heatmaps also help show how visitors behave on the page.
- Audience: Reaching users who search in Russian is easier on Yandex.
How do you advertise on Yandex? Setup steps
Yandex ads are run from a Yandex Direct account opened with a Yandex ID, and a Yandex Metrica tag is added to the site for measurement. Before a campaign goes live, the ad copy goes through Yandex moderation.
- A Yandex ID is created in the company’s name, and Direct and Metrica are linked to it. The account stays with you, and we are granted access.
- The Metrica tag is added to the site, and actions such as form submissions, phone clicks and purchases are defined as goals.
- Metrica is linked to the Direct account, so the campaign can be optimised towards these goals.
- Region, language and keyword list are set, and negative keywords are added from the start.
- Ads are sent for moderation; if any copy is rejected, it is corrected based on the stated reason.
Ads that fail moderation
Yandex moderation assesses the ad copy, images and landing page together. The most common reasons for rejection are a landing page that does not load, an offer in the ad that does not appear on the page, superiority claims that cannot be substantiated and, in some sectors, missing required documents. The reason for a rejected ad is shown in the Direct interface; the correction is made accordingly and the ad is resubmitted for moderation.
Keyword operators
Matching in Yandex works differently from Google. Putting a minus sign in front of a word makes it negative; putting words in quotation marks means the search must consist of only those words; the exclamation mark operator excludes inflected forms of a word. In an agglutinative language like Turkish, if these operators are not used correctly the budget drifts to irrelevant searches.
When defining goals in Metrica, we set separate goals not only for thank-you page visits but also for clicks on the phone number and messaging links. Yandex campaigns learn which goal to optimise for from these definitions; if a weak goal is chosen, the campaign multiplies cheap but worthless visits.
Advertising on Yandex to a Russian-speaking audience: what to watch out for
For a Russian-language campaign to perform, the ad, the landing page and the contact channel all need to be in the same language. Visitors who arrive at a Turkish page from a Russian ad mostly leave again; the budget is spent on clicks and does not turn into enquiries.
- The landing page is prepared in Russian; pricing information, scope of service and FAQs are written in that language.
- Someone is assigned who can reply to forms or messages in Russian; if the reply is delayed, the lead goes cold.
- Turkish and Russian keywords are kept in separate campaigns, so the cost of each audience can be tracked separately.
- The target region is chosen based on where the audience actually is: Russian speakers living in Turkey and people planning a trip are handled in different campaigns.
Rather than translating Russian ad copy word for word from Turkish, we write it around the phrases the audience actually uses when searching. The Russian and Turkish names of the product or service are tracked separately in the search terms report; over time it becomes clear which phrase brings in enquiries.
In sectors such as tourism, real estate and health tourism, we also check the claims in the ad copy; Yandex moderation may not approve ads containing misleading or unverifiable promises.
Testing Yandex ads: what we do in the first 90 days
We open Yandex as a test channel and, at the end of the first three months, decide based on the data whether to continue or stop. The criterion for the decision is not cost per click but cost per conversion compared with the same keyword group on Google.
First 30 days
Metrica goals are verified and the campaign goes live with a limited keyword list. Search terms are reviewed every week and the negative list is expanded.
Days 30–60
Ad copy that gets impressions but no clicks is refreshed. By watching session recordings in Metrica, we identify where on the page visitors give up and, if needed, prepare recommendations for the page.
Days 60–90
Yandex and Google are put side by side: in the same period, for the same service, how many enquiries came in and what each one cost. If Yandex’s cost is at an acceptable level, the budget is increased gradually; if not, the channel is stopped and the budget is moved back to Google. We share this decision in the report together with the reasoning behind it.
What is in the monthly report?
The Yandex report covers spend, clicks, conversions by Metrica goal and cost per conversion. In addition, it includes the negative keywords added from search terms, ads rejected in moderation and the reasons, page observations from Metrica session recordings, and a cost comparison with Google for the same service. The last section of the report is our recommendation on whether to continue with the channel for another month.
